Be An Active Reader
I would say the majority of people simply open their books and read. At least that’s what I often see. People isolating themselves in a quiet corner of a building, or room to read in peace. And while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with this. However, there may be a few tips and tweaks that may improve your reading experience. Try out these tips below to become an active reader, and make reading fun!
An active reader is exactly what the name implies. One who is doing something while also reading. Well, at least that’s my little definition anyway.
So what does Active Reading look like?
In order to be an active reader, you’ll need a book, a pen, a notebook, a highlighter, maybe even a friend, co-worker, parent, child, or a spouse will do. You’ll want to highlight and take notes to your heart’s content. You want to write down cute ideas if you’re reading fiction. Jot down additional questions and research topics for non-fiction. You want to talk about fascinating points with someone near you as you read, or share with someone as soon as you can. Hand the book to others and say, “read this part here”. Get excited, people often pass their phones around while browsing Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to let people see funny memes or interesting content. So, why not pass the book around? Why keep all the juiciness to yourself?
Once you finish the book review it, either for your records or to share your experience. You can share on your social media accounts using hashtags, for example, #bookstagram, #bookreview #booklover, just to name a few. Another thing I like to do is to watch YouTube or Tik Tok video reviews to see what others are saying and join in on the discussions in the comment sections.
Don’t these changes sound a lot better than quietly reading in your head all alone in a corner someplace? Which of these new tips are you going to try out? Let us know down in the comments below.
